Jeff Conger

I'd like to introduce myself, my name is Jeff Conger, co owner of Lawn Chief Inc. I was introduced to the lawn care industry in 1980 when my parents Chuck and Doris joined in with an existing farm ag company called Soil Service. They started Lawn Chief, the first lawn care company of its kind in Southeast Iowa. My parents bought the business after its first year due to growth in the Ag business side. My father did have a recognizable name within the community as he had spent approximately 10 years on the local radio and TV station known as KTVO/KBIZ He was the farm director and also did the noon news on TV.

I was a sophomore in high school at the time and gradually worked into the business. After graduating high school I attended Kirkwood Community College, and got my two year degree in Turfgrass Management. I took that fresh knowledge and went South, to Atlanta, Ga. I spent 4 years in the South and quickly climbed the ladder in a lawn care company called Terragreen. I met my wife while in Atlanta and she decided to follow me back to Iowa and we got married in 1990, a year after I moved back.

I then went full steam into lawn care with multiple large mowing contracts and even did some landscaping projects to fill in any spare time. Things progressed well with Lawn Chief and in 2000, my wife, Janice and I decided to buy the business. As of 2020 we are the sole owners of Lawn Chief.

We are very blessed to have the customer base we have, we serve currently, approximately 1200 customers in over 15 different communities.

My theory of running the business may differ from the larger companies. We do a few things and do them well, we know how to do many things in the lawn care industr, but we don’t stray too far from our roots.

I am proud to say my son Buzz (Justin) has interest in carrying this business in the future. He too has a degree in Turfgrass Management from IHCC in Ottumwa. I feel satisfied this business will be in good hands for the future as his morals and his integrity are solid, and his hard work ethic will carry this company forward.

Janice Conger

Hello everybody, my name is Janice Conger and I am one of the co-owners of Lawn Chief. I am the voice behind the phone when ever you call our office number. I handle all things billing and office related. When I’m not doing office work or running errands, I am spending time with my 4 grandkids, enjoying time outdoors, and watching Alabama football (Roll Tide!). Some of my other hobbies include mowing the yard and tending to my flowers during the summer months and relaxing around a good bonfire.

Jeff and I have been married since 1990 and have raised 3 kids all while running the family business. We bought Lawn Chief back in the year 2000 and since then we have seen exponential growth. We have always made it our goal to serve our customers and give them a high quality service.

We appreciate all of our customers and will strive to always do our best for many years to come.

Buzz Conger

Hey everyone! My name is Buzz and I am one of the guys you will typically see when we pull up to service your yard. My time at Lawn Chief officially started in 2016 but my passion for the lawn care industry started long before that. As the youngest of three siblings I can remember riding around in the car with my sisters, pointing out all the yards that were full of dandelions compared to the ones that didn’t.

I graduated from Cardinal High School in 2016 and spent the next 2 years at Indian Hill Community Collage obtaining my degree in Landscape and Turfgrass Technology. When I wasn’t going to class, I spent most of my free time helping out in the business.

After 8 years of dating, I finally had the fortune of marrying my wife in September of 2022. Her name is Brooke and some of you may have seen her out in the field before either writing tickets or winding our hoses back up. When she isn’t helping out with lawn duties she is helping saves lives as she is a Registered Nurse at ORHC in Ottumwa.

I just want to say thank you to all of our current and future customers and I hope I get the pleasure of talking to all of you soon!
